Smart Clothes

Abstract:
“Intelligent” clothing, which should make our lives easier in the future, ranges from the jacket with an integrated mobile phone or MP3 player through to complete health monitoring using nano-sensors.

Description:
The boundaries between textiles and computer technology or microsystems technology are fluid and therefore require extensive research, which cannot be achieved by individual manufacturers or research institutes. Interdisciplinary cooperation is therefore the key to the successful future of smart clothes made in Baden-Württemberg.

One of the ways in which the state of Baden-Württemberg supports the research of the BPI into smart clothes is by jointly financing the “Solartex” project from funds from the state foundation. In conjunction with the Institute for Physical Electronics at the University of Stuttgart, solar clothing was developed which can help provide the energy supply for wearable computers, integrated information and entertainments electronics and medical systems, for example. This marks an important milestone on the path to the intelligent clothing of the future.

Main Advantages:
Industrial partners include the children’s clothing manufacturers benefit from the research results in the development of their own product innovations.
